To begin our unit, we were fortunate enough to have two representatives from the Texas Bigfoot Research Conservancy come to give us some information on Bigfoot. The TBRC an organization dedicated to investigate and conduct research regarding the existence of sasquatch or bigfoot. Their mission is to facilitate scientific, official and governmental recognition, conservation and protection of the species and its habitat and to help further factual education and understanding of the species.

Mr. Alton Higgins, a college professor in Oklahoma and Mr. Mike Mayes, a Texas History teacher, drove several hours to be with us. Our students listened attentively and asked lots of questions. Students were shown casts of footprints and a hand print and got to compare their own hands and feet to the casts.
As we progress, more blogs and pictures will be posted about their progress in this unit. We thank Mr. Higgins and Mr. Mayes for their time and for their outstanding information!
Mrs. Fout,
ReplyDeleteIt was my pleasure. I know Alton enjoyed it as well. I appreciate your having us. Hopefully, we can visit again next year.
In the meantime, I'll address your question about the "Is it Real?" program. This was aired on the National Geographic channel and was really disappointing. Not because they came to the conclusion that the PG film was likely a hoax but because they used faulty logic and didn't do their homework. I could harp on many points but the most obvious is that the suit they produced, for what had to be a large sum of money, didn't look anything like the subject of the PG film. It looked terrible and totally unconvincing yet was touted as "proof" the PG film could have been hoaxed.
There have been several much better programs produced that I would recommend over the "Is it Real?" program. "Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science" was produced by the Discovery Channel and is quite good. "Giganto: The Real King Kong" was produced by the History Channel and is also very good, though it doesn't deal that much with the PG film.
I hope that helps. Please feel free to contact me anytime you, or one of the kids, have a question.
Mike
