About Me

As the saying goes, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could."  I have lived in Texas for over 30 years.  I grew up in a small town and went to the same school from first grade until I graduated, minus my tenth grade year, which was spent in New Mexico.  I played in the marching band and was on a gymnastics team.  After high school, I went to Southwestern Adventist College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education with a minor in History.  I played flute in the college band, sang in the choir and was also on the college gymnastics team.  My husband, Drew, and I have been married for almost 18 years and have two beautiful red-headed children. They are all the lights of my life. We have 3 cats and 2 leopard geckos (quite the combination).  There have been many mornings where I would find the cats perched on top of the gecko aquariums and the cat and gecko having a stare down.

I am a nerd.  This is easy to admit because there isn't a person who knows me that doesn't know this about me.  I love Star Trek, Star Wars, Dr. Who, and watching musicals (if only they had a Star Trek or Star Wars musical).  I have been to ComiCons, SciFi Convention and Star Trek conventions (sometimes dressed in costume.)  I have gotten my picture taken with James Doohan (Scotty) and William Shatner (James T. Kirk) from Star Trek.

After college, I moved away from my hometown and started my career at Boles ISD, teaching third grade.  I don't think that I could have started in a better place.  It was a warm and friendly environment and I made some really good friends there.  My first year's class had seven boys and seven girls and they were all wonderful children.   They are in college now or beginning careers or families of their own.

After four years at Boles ISD, I took a job at Davis Elementary in Royse City, which is where I am today.  After teaching 5 years of third grade at Davis, I was offered the position of teaching our first gifted and talented pull out classes at Davis.  I became certified to teach GT over that first summer before starting to teach GT and have since taught the GT classes for 5 years.  Seeing that spark of creativity and imagination everyday is what drives me.  I love teaching and inspiring students to do their best and go for their dreams. One of the best things about teaching is seeing each child grow and discover what excites them about learning. I love hearing them say, "Yay! We're doing math!" or "I can't wait to get started on the pyramids!" It makes my time in the classroom that much more fun.
